We are building a network to support the needs of every individual and business in rural Ireland for generations to come. We are building an open wholesale network that can be utilised by any retail service provider. This enables both local and large international broadband providers to deliver a full range of services.

The National Broadband Plan (NBP) aims to ensure that every home, farm and business in Ireland – regardless of how remote or rural – has access to high-speed fibre broadband.

How do I get fast broadband if I am not in the intervention area?

If your premises isn’t included in the rollout of the National Broadband Plan, but you aren’t getting Internet speeds of 30Mb or more from any commercial broadband provider, there are things you can do to remedy the situation;

  1. Contact your current retail service provider and ask them why your broadband speeds are slow and why a high speed broadband service isn’t coming to your area.
  1. Contact other retail service providers offering broadband services in your area to see whether they can offer high-speed broadband where you live or work.
  2. If you’ve done all this and you still can’t get over 30Mbps from any retail service provider, you can raise a query with the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC). They will check it out on your behalf. For further details, please contact the National Broadband Plan division of DECC using the designated Web Form
When will the network be completed?

We are busy rolling out the network that will allow increased access and usage of broadband infrastructure in rural areas (and the amenities, digital skills, online education, and job opportunities that come with it).

The scale of the project means it will take time. We aim to have completed the network build within 7 years. We will continue to add to and upgrade the network, and connect new homes or premises built in the rollout area over the next 25 – 35 years.
